FAQ
Size & Fit
Most sunglasses are "one size fits all" with an average lens size of 55mm making the frame roughly 135mm wide. If you have a small head or narrow face a 135mm wide pair of shades will look too big. often slide down your nose and won't align with your pupils.
Melonz size small sunglasses are available in lens sizes of 47mm, 48mm, 49mm and 52mm making the frames less than 130mm wide. We also added slight shorter 130-135mm temples to properly fit small heads and narrow faces.
If most sunglasses look to big, feel loose or slide off you're wearing the wrong size of eyewear. Instead shop Melonz where every style and color comes in size small for the perfect fit and all day comfort.
Most “one size fits all” sunglasses are around 135 mm wide with an average lens size of only 55mm. If your head is bigger or wider than most people these frames will look too small, pinch your temples and give you headaches.
At Melonz we make every style in a wider frame with lens sizes of 60mm, 62mm, 64mm & 65mm which adds a full centimeter (alot in frame size) to the width. We also added 5mm to the temple length for a better fit.
If you have a big head our size large frames are all greater than 140mm wide so they will fit you perfectly, sit centered on your pupils and won’t give you headaches.
Fact: most people say our size XL sunglasses are the most comfortable they have ever owned.
In eyewear, even 1 centimeter makes a huge difference. That’s why we craft every Melonz frame in Small, Medium, and Large-XL sizes. Each size up or down changes the frame width by about 1 cm — roughly the width of your pinky.
It might not sound like much, but in sunglasses, 1 cm decides everything: how your lenses line up with your pupils, how the temples rest behind your ears, and whether they slide down your nose or feel perfectly balanced.
And then there’s how your sunglasses look on you. With the right-size lenses for your face, you’ll be amazed at the difference.
Want to find your eyewear size fast? Try the credit card method from our Melonz Fit Guide.
In a mirror, hold the short side of a credit card (52 mm wide) vertically under your eye and lined up with the middle of your nose. Two credit cards together are about 104 mm wide, which gives you a rough idea of your head width.
- If the edge lines up with the corner of your eye, you’re a Medium (M) — frame width 131–139 mm
- If it goes noticeably past, you’re a Small (S) — frame width 120–130 mm
- If it falls short, you’re a Large-XL (L-XL) — frame width 140–150 mm
You can also check the tiny numbers printed inside your current eyewear — those little codes like 55-18-140 that supposedly tell you something about fit. The problem? Most brands never explain what any of it means, and you’d have to do the math to figure out how big they are.
At Melonz, we make it easy. We size every frame around real head widths and proper pupil distance, so the lenses sit exactly where your eyes want them.
When you’re shopping Melonz online, you can also use our virtual mirror on every style. Use your phone, laptop, or tablet to measure your pupil distance and try on each size to dial in your perfect fit.
Most sunglasses on the market are one size and they usually measure about 135mm wide from hinge to hinge. That works fine if you have a regular head — but if your sunglasses are constantly sliding down your nose, sitting too low on your cheeks, or look too big on you, the frame width is the reason.
At Melonz, we define small sunglasses as frames that measure roughly 123mm–130mm wide — about 5–10mm narrower than standard sunglasses. That may not sound like much, but in eyewear, every millimeter matters. Even a 3–4mm difference in frame width changes how centered the lenses sit on your face, match your pupils and fit securely.
Our Small (S) sizes are are built for adults with narrower or smaller head widths — but they also fit younger faces. The temples remain full-length (about 135mm) so they stay comfortable on grown-up heads, but the frame front and lens spacing are reduced for a snug, balanced fit that doesn’t slide or pinch.
Typical size specs for Melonz Small sunglasses:
- Frame width: 123–130mm
- Lens width: 47–56mm
- Bridge width: 16–18mm
- Temple length: 135mm
Most sunglasses you see on the market are about 135mm wide, which is technically a medium fit — yet that “one size” often feels tight for people with larger heads or broader faces. That’s why Melonz created it’s Large-XL sizes: to give big heads the room to breathe and more comfort.
At Melonz, our Large (L)-XL sunglasses range from 140mm–148mm wide, giving an extra 5–12mm of frame width compared to standard sunglasses. That extra space makes all the difference — no more temples digging into your head, red marks near your ears, or sunglasses that sit too high on your cheeks.
Our large sizes are precision measured for larger heads. The bridge and lens widths scale up naturally so the frames stay centered on your pupils and balanced on your face.
Typical size specs for Melonz Large-XL sunglasses:
- Frame width: 140–148mm
- Lens width: 56–66mm
- Bridge width: 17–19mm
- Temple length: 135-140mm
Our Large and XL sunglasses are designed for adult heads that find regular sized sunglasses are just too tight, pinch behind the ears or simply look too small on your face in photos. If your sunglasses always feel snug, give you headaches, leave pressure marks, or you tend to “stretch” your shades wider just to wear them — your perfect fit is Melonz Large-XL.
When sunglasses fit right, everything else just works.
That’s why at Melonz, we start with size and fit — not just style. Every head is shaped a little differently, so we build every Melonz frame in multiple sizes S -M - L-XL to make sure the touch points line up where they should: a light grip on the nose and a gentle hold behind the ears. When those two contact points are balanced, your shades stay perfectly centered without pressure or pinch.
We also developed MelonSkin™, our proprietary comfort grip made from a soft rubber blend that feels smooth to the touch but keeps your frames exactly where they belong. It’s applied at every key touch point — the nose pads and temple tips — to create a subtle, no-slip surface that adjusts to movement without grabbing hair or skin.
And because every Melonz frame weighs under one ounce, there’s almost no downward pressure on your nose to begin with. The lightweight build combined with the right size and MelonSkin™ grip means you can wear your sunglasses all day — driving, playing, sweating, or relaxing — and they’ll stay put comfortably the entire time.
That’s the secret: fit first, balance second, and just enough grip to make them feel invisible.
Materials
Sunglasses aren’t just for looking cool — they’re for seeing more clearly and keeping your eyes safe. The sun fires ultraviolet (UV) rays at us, which are invisible beams of light that your eyes can’t see but your skin and eyes can still absorb. Over time, too much UV can cause eye strain, wrinkles, and even long-term damage like cataracts.
Every pair of Melonz sunglasses is crafted with polarized lenses with complete UV400 protection, which means they block 100% of UVA and UVB rays — the two types that actually reach your eyes.
Here’s what that really means: UV light is measured in nanometers, and “UV400” means our lenses block all ultraviolet rays with wavelengths up to 400 nanometers — basically the entire harmful range of sunlight.

General
At Melonz, we understand that one size does not fit all, which is why we offer sunglasses in a range of sizes to accommodate diverse individuals. From large to small, we have frames to suit every face. We're committed to providing sunglasses that fit every body, regardless of size or shape.
Our sunglasses are crafted with high-quality materials to ensure durability and performance. We use a combination of lightweight yet sturdy materials for frames and polarized lenses for superior clarity and UV protection.
Melonz lenses offer a variety of combinations and benefits, from smudge-resistant oleophobic coating to saltwater coating, mirror coating, and more. Our frames come with a matte finish, soft touch finish, glossy finish, and more to make each set of sunglasses as pleasant and dynamic as possible.
Additionally, our temple tips and nose pads are customized to each style for a unique look and optimal comfort.
Melonz uses the same core materials you see on big-name brands, built to last and meant for all day comfort.
All lenses are polarized with full UV protection and a saltwater-ready coating. Most plastic frames are built with lightweight TR90; Papaya, Valencia, and Sugar use flexible polycarbonate. Our metal styles are lightweight stainless steel with a premium flex.
We skip spring hinges on purpose, use tight hardware, smooth finishing, and every frame comes in under 1 oz. Serious sunglasses - built right.
Fit is where we have fun—and where most brands miss the mark. We make every style in sizes S / M / L-XL so your shades actually fit your melon. No pinch, no slide, no end-of-day temple throb. MelonSkin™ grip on the nose pads and temple tips keeps them planted when you’re on the move.
And about those spring hinges? That's just the "one size" guys trying to sell you. When your frame size is right, you don’t need springs—you need sunglasses that sit centered on your pupils and forget they’re even there.
Materials alone shouldn’t push sunglasses over $100. If they do, you’re mostly paying for the logo. We match (and often beat) the materials and craftsmanship you know, price them reasonably, and back it with a 365-day warranty on defects. Plus, the founder’s been in this industry long enough to never ship a sub-par product.
